Assorted News Bits: FFVII Gallery and Potions, Crisis Core, Before Crisis

FF_Compilations and Kotaku have posted a number of pictures from the FFVII 10th Anniversary Gallery (previously mentioned here). The first two sets of FF_Compilations pics are of special items that will be included with either one of two different types of canned FFVII Potions (separate from the Limited Edition version): a Trading Arts figurine or poster, each depicting a character (or characters) from various Compilation titles. The third set is of a model of Midgar that was also shown. Kotaku has additional photos from the Gallery, including FFVII concept art and a congratulatory note from Sony Computer Entertainment's Kaz Hirai. They also have more pictures of the canned Potions here. (ETA: More photos! Famitsu's batch is from the opening reception, where Ayaka performed the Crisis Core theme song "Why". Worth checking out for the pic of the life-size Buster Sword replica!)

Rounding out the FF_Compilations post are screenshots from Famitsu of the Nibelheim incident, as seen in Crisis Core, and news of a special new episode in Before Crisis that features Reno as a playable character for the first time (note: spoilers abound for this episode).

Tiny Little Crisis Core Update

Jeux France has a single new scan up, this time from the Japanese manga weekly Shonen Jump. Featured is a handsome new image of Zack, as well as screenshots of Zack and Sephiroth. (ETA [08/31/07]: Several new scans from Famitsu have been added, making this update not quite as tiny as it was before)

Fanfiction & Article: Sacrifices conclusion and Expecting: Crisis Core

We have two nice additions to the Citadel this week and this time for both the fanfiction and article archives.

First up we have the conclusion to Yuronova’s "Sacrifices". Originally started back in January 2006, chapter fourteen marks the end of the story. It’s nice to see the dedication from the author to complete it - a rarity for long fanfiction. Rated PG-13, it’s worth a read if you haven’t checked it out.

The other update today is in the rather neglected article archives and marks my first written contribution to the site. "Expecting: Crisis Core" details my thoughts and concerns prior to the prequel's release in Japan and how Square may be splitting the original fan base yet again. A warning for those of you who don’t want to know anything before playing, the article does contain minor Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus spoilers.

Thanks for reading; I'll have another update for you soon.

New Crisis Core Trailer

It's been awhile since we've had one of these: a new trailer for Crisis Core has hit the internet, and can be seen via good ol' YouTube. According to FF_Compilations, this is the trailer from this past May's Square Enix Party. The game's theme song, "Why", is prominently featured, as are several familiar characters and scenes. As usual, be mindful of spoilers.

Crisis Core is still slated for a September 13th release in Japan. Those interested in importing the game (regular or limited edition version) can preorder it at Play-Asia; keep in mind that as this game lacks region protection, it can be played on North American and European PSPs as well as Japanese ones.

Square Enix's US Online Shop Open For Business

Square Enix USA's Official Online Merchandise Store opened for business last night. Many of the items featured are hard to find in the States, and a select few are exclusive to this store. Among the exclusives are special versions of the Cloud and Sephiroth Advent Children Sculpture Arts.

There are several other FFVII-related items at the shop, including the 10th anniversary series of pendants featuring the Black Materia, Holy, Cloud's wristband, and Sephy's "one wing". Two ShinRa items, three Dirge of Cerberus items, and FFVII/AC's entries in the Mechanical Arts and Master Creatures series are also featured, and we'd be surprised if the upcoming FFVII and AC Play Arts, AC Masterpiece Arts, and the Sculpture Arts statue of Aeris aren't up for sale in the future.

Thanks to Game|Life for the reminder. According to one of the commenters there, the shop's servers were getting hammered last night; I had few problems visiting this morning, but all the same, be aware that technical difficulties may ensue.

New Crisis Core Scans: Nibelheim Incident, Zack Pics for the Ladies

Jeux France delivers again with a fresh pair of Crisis Core-related scans from Japanese games magazine V-Jump (ETA [08/20/07]: Four more scans, also from V-Jump have since been added). Contained within are an image of a newly confirmed summon (Odin); several screenshots from CC's depiction of the Nibelheim incident, complete with Tifa in her tour guide getup and Jenova in her containment tube; and a few shots of Shizune and a shirtless Zack in Costa del Sol. There's images of a previously unseen character as well. Though many of these new screenshots depict scenes from the original FFVII, as always, be mindful of potential spoilers.

This Month's Theme, Assorted Updates

Our theme for August is Final Fantasy VII's angst-ridden hero Cloud Strife. Thanks goes out to Cloudyfan for this month's banner artwork! As usual, if you'd like to take a look back at our previous themes, they can be found on the Tenth Anniversary page.

Plenty of updates for the site today. In the Compilation of FFVII section, several new pictures have been added to Crisis Core Images & Media, three new entires have been added to CC Characters, a wallpaper has been added to AC Images & Media, and the CC FAQ has been updated. Elsewhere, Cloud gets a lengthy entry in the Character Compendium; an interesting new tip concerning one of the Materia Caves has been added to Assorted Tips & Tricks; and new fanart pieces by Cloudyfan, ChibiTaryn, and myself have been uploaded.
