08/28/2007: "Fanfiction & Article: Sacrifices conclusion and Expecting: Crisis Core"

We have two nice additions to the Citadel this week and this time for both the fanfiction and article archives.

First up we have the conclusion to Yuronova’s "Sacrifices". Originally started back in January 2006, chapter fourteen marks the end of the story. It’s nice to see the dedication from the author to complete it - a rarity for long fanfiction. Rated PG-13, it’s worth a read if you haven’t checked it out.

The other update today is in the rather neglected article archives and marks my first written contribution to the site. "Expecting: Crisis Core" details my thoughts and concerns prior to the prequel's release in Japan and how Square may be splitting the original fan base yet again. A warning for those of you who don’t want to know anything before playing, the article does contain minor Crisis Core and Dirge of Cerberus spoilers.

Cloudandtidus, that was a fascinating article. I would think that if a remake of FF7 was to appear, it will try to include information relating to last order, before crisis, crisis core, dirge of cerberus and advent children. There are some fans who are opposed to that which will break down the fanbase. I applaud CloudANDTidus for his opinions.

For me, (note I said me, please do not get offended) if they made a remake of ffvii (which I am all for) i would find it VERY annoying to have new characters springing up on me. For one, it seems a little silly to remake the original to explain the sequel and the prequel, that were made many years AFTER it was created. Now if they fix the gaping pot holes in the story with these characters, maybe. But to just throw them in the pot like they were there the whole time seems a little asinine to me. But I would love to see them tied in a bit more.

That's a major reason why some of us don't want to see a remake. It happened with the PSP port of Final Fantasy Tactics (where they threw in an appearance by FFXII's Balthier, even though FFT's Ivalice is markedly different from the one in the game he came from), it could very, very easily happen in an FFVII port/remake.
