Sony's Advent Children "Fantasy Pack" Sweepstakes

If you're a regular visitor to the Citadel, you may recall some AC promo materials that we received awhile ago, mentioning an online sweepstakes tied in to the movie's release. Well, via Sony Pictures' AC site, we've learned that one may now enter said sweepstakes for a chance to win a PSP and other prizes. A direct link to the entry form is here.

E3 2006 Preview, New AC Collectables, and More!

All the (perfectly understandable) excitement over AC's English-language release aside, it's never too early for an E3 preview! Of interest to FFVII fans is the fact that Square Enix will once again showcase the Compilation of FFVII titles Dirge of Cerberus and Before Crisis. On Square Enix's E3 site, which launched today, images with English dialogue are featured for both DC and BC for what's quite possibly the first time ever, and tentative release dates are given (Summer 2006 for DC, and a more broad "2006" for BC). Are both games really due for Western shores before the end of the year? Time, and perhaps E3 2006, will tell.

It has also recently come to our attention that a fantastic pair of Advent Children statues is slated for retail release sometime in the future. You may see these statues here, but be forewarned that they depict a MAJOR SPOILER for the movie.

New on the Citadel today are song lyrics for the original FFVII's "One Winged Angel" on the FFVII Discography page, as well as lyrics for some of AC's tracks on the AC Music page. The AC FAQ and AC Collectables pages are also now fully up-to-date.

New Fanworks and a Couple Tiny Little Reminders

For today's update, we have a new piece by JetNoir in the Poetry wing of Fanfiction, as well as a new work of fanart by Wyna Hiros.

I'm sure the lot of you have already marked your calendars and made your shopping plans, but as a reminder, Advent Children officially comes out on DVD and UMD this Monday (tomorrow!) in the UK, and this Tuesday in the US and Canada. And don't forget about the Citadel's latest competition, where we'll be giving away AC DVDs to the makers of the most creative (and funniest) entries. The deadline is a week from today, so get your entry in if you haven't done so already!

Square Enix Advent Children piracy case and new anti-piracy enforcement

With the release of Advent Children only a few days away on both sides of the pond, Square Enix has today made a press release announcing a settlement it has reached after prosecution against an individual that uploaded the movie to the Google Video service. Square Enix has also announced that in connection with the movie's release, it will be "stepping up its anti-piracy enforcement with aggressive initiatives" against those it feels are infringing it's intellectual property rights.

Yasuhiko Hasegawa of Square Enix says in the press release:
"Any illegal activities, including the illegal uploading of Square Enix content to Internet sites and the unauthorized copying of Square Enix games, music, movies, images, and other intellectual property, will be prosecuted. While Square Enix appreciates the enthusiasm of its fans, and values its relationship with them, it is also obligated to protect its intellectual property rights or risk weakening or losing the very rights that enable the company to continue to provide its fans with an exciting entertainment experience."

Just what the impact of these new initiatives will be is unknown but it should be a sobering reminder for fans out there that Square Enix is going to be taking copyright infringement seriously.

To lighten the mood, please remember that the FFVII Citadel is running an AC themed competition to celebrate the DVD release with DVDs as prizes! Please check out this page for details.

Also, if you haven't already done so and can spare a few moments, please fill out our survey so we can get a better idea of who visits the Citadel. Thanks.

Advent Children Competition, Citadel Survey, More

There's much to talk about today. For starters, our second Advent Children -themed competition is now open, and the prizes this time around are AC DVDs! Check out this page for all the details. Note that this competition only runs for two weeks, so get your entries in soon!

Secondly, a visitor's survey has been set up here. This survey will help us get a better idea of who our visitors are, so please take a moment out to answer the questions.

Next, you may notice that the most recent frontpage posts (including this one) are now open to comments. If you have anything to say about any update, you may do so there (but note that spam and other abuse will be dealt with accordingly). Please let me know immediately if you come across any bugs or glitches while using this new commenting system. And while I'm at it, I'd like to send a shout-out to Silverwolf at our affiliate UFFSite.net for his advice while getting this system off the ground.

Now before I go, there is some new content today! The AC FAQ is now up-to-date, and five illustrations from Shonen Gangan have been added to the AC Images & Media page.

Advent Children UK screening and Sony Pictures downloads

There is some good news for fans in the UK later this month as Advent Children is to be shown on the big screen as part of the SCI-FI-LONDON Film Festival. The screening will be part of the Anime: Allnight event on Saturday the 29th of April. Starting at 11:30pm at the Apollo West Cinema, it will be shown alongside titles such as Ghost in the Shell 2. If you wish to attend, make sure you call the Ticket Hotline to see if tickets are still available. The event has been billed for a while now so apologies for not getting this information out sooner.

Adventchildren.net has also just reported that Sony Pictures have added a download section to their Advent Children page. Fans can pick up AIM icons, PSP wallpapers and some iPod scrubbers which allow you to update your iPod with a short flip-book style animation.
