He later left the Shinra to reside in Icicle Inn, where he studied—and eventually fell in love with—an Ancient named Ifalna, who supplied him with information about Jenova and the WEAPONs. He fathered Aeris, and is presumed to have died when Hojo found him, stole his notes, and abducted his family.

Heidegger - The Chairman of Peace Preservation for the Shinra Electric Power Company. Heidegger oversees the military police, SOLDIER, and the Turks. He has a distinctive laugh ("Gya ha ha!") which irritates Rufus, and is often seen with Scarlet. Heidegger dies after the Proud Clod he co-piloted with Scarlet is defeated and destroyed.
Compilation Appearances: Heidegger can be seen in Before Crisis.

Hojo - Sephiroth's biological father, and one of the Shinra scientists responsible for the Jenova Project. Along with Gast and Lucrecia, Hojo studied Jenova, believing her to be an Ancient, and participated in the Jenova Project. The most malicious of Shinra's scientists, he experimented on and imprisoned Vincent shortly after Lucrecia's death; he also tracked down Gast after his retirement, in order to use his Cetra wife and child as "specimens". Five years prior to the game, he came to Nibelheim after Sephiroth's rampage and experimented on the injured—including Cloud and Zack—turning them into "Sephiroth clones".
Compilation Appearances: Hojo is featured in Before Crisis, Dirge of Cerberus, and Crisis Core. He is also one of several characters who appear in the short story, "Maiden who Travels the Planet", which is featured in the FFVII Ultimania Omega.
Boss Stats: Hojo | Hellenic Hojo - body, left arm, right arm | Lifeform Hojo-NA

Holzoff - An old explorer and mountain climber who used to live in Icicle Inn, but now resides at the base of Gaea's Cliff, where he offers your party a place to rest. It is he who drew the map of the Great Glacier.

Ifalna - The Ancient (Cetra) whom Professor Gast interviewed and eventually fell in love with, during his time in Icicle Inn. She was the one who told Gast the truth about Jenova, as well as about the monsters called "Weapon". She came to have a daughter, Aeris, with Gast, but was forced to leave Icicle Inn not long after Aeris' birth. Ifalna and Aeris ended up in a laboratory (presumably Hojo's) for an unspecified amount of time before escaping again. She died in the Midgar slums when Aeris was five years old, but not before leaving her daughter in Elmyra's care.

Jenova - The name given by Gast and Hojo to an ancient being found at the Northern Crater approximately thirty years ago. In truth, she is either an extraterrestrial or a Cetra infected by an extraterrestrial virus, and is a grave threat to all life on the planet. Her cellular matter can't biodegrade into the Lifestream, and has strange effects on those who are injected with it. Jenova's cells were used in an experiment to create Sephiroth.
Housed for several years in Mt. Nibel's mako reactor, she was discovered by Sephiroth, who believed her to be his mother. Sephiroth soon removed Jenova's head, and the rest of her body was later moved to Shinra Headquarters in Midgar. This body later went missing, eventually winding up in the Northern Crater, where Sephiroth's remains were located.
Compilation Appearances: Jenova's head is a key plot element in Advent Children. She also appears in the Nibelheim incident retelling, Last Order.
Boss Stats: Jenova*BIRTH | Jenova*LIFE | Jenova*DEATH | Jenova Synthesis

Jessie - A member of AVALANCHE, Jessie serves as the team's hacker; among her responsibilities are creating forgeries of keycards for the train to the upper plate, and building the group's bombs. She dies during the group's battle against the Shinra at the Sector Seven pillar.
Compilation Appearances: Jessie is one of several characters who appear in "Maiden who Travels the Planet".

Joe - The top jockey at the Gold Saucer's Chocobo Square. His chocobo Teioh is always the fastest and most hardy bird in any race they're in.

Johnny - A childhood friend of Tifa's who heads to Midgar to make his fortune. During their separation, he writes Tifa letters, telling him what he's up to and asking how she's doing.
In the game's present day, Cloud first runs into him in the Sector 7 Slums, and later in Wall Market, where Johnny is agonizing over whether or not he should enter the Honeybee Inn. Later on, Johnny moves to Costa del Sol; if Tifa is not in your party during your first visit to this town, she'll head to his house where they talk about old times.
Compilation Appearances: Johnny is featured in the short story, "On the Way to a Smile: Case of Denzel", where he is the proprieter of a pub in Edge modeled after Tifa's Seventh Heaven.

"Kalm Traveller" - An old man who lives in Kalm. Late in the game, he wishes to go on a journey to pray for the souls of friends who have died, but before he does, he needs the Guide Book, Earth Harp, and Desert Rose. Trading these items to him will garner an Underwater materia, a full set of Master materia, and a gold chocobo, respectively.

Kotch - One of Don Corneo's flunkies.

Lucrecia - Hojo's research partner and a close friend of Vincent Valentine's during the early days of the Jenova Project. With Hojo, they conceived Sephiroth, but Lucrecia died during her son's birth. However, because of the Jenova cells in her body, she did not really "die", and resides behind a waterfall on the Great Continent where Vincent and the others find her many years later.
Compilation Appearances: Lucrecia is an important character in the Vincent-centered Dirge of Cerberus.

Marlene - Dyne and Eleanor's daughter, who is adopted by Barret after Corel is destoyed by Shinra troops. The four-year-old Marlene takes care of Seventh Heaven whenever Barret and Tifa are away on a mission, and tends to be shy toward strangers. During the battle at the Sector Seven pillar, Marlene is taken to safety by Aeris, and left in the care of Elmyra. Much later on, Marlene is held hostage by Reeve to blackmail Cloud into letting Cait Sith stay with the group. Marlene remains safe the whole time, and by the end of the game, it's revealed that she has been relocated to Kalm, where she watches from a distance as Meteor tears into Midgar.
Compilation Appearances: Marlene is one of the main characters of Advent Children. She also appears in the short story, "On the Way to a Smile: Case of Tifa".

Mr. Coates - The liason between the Gold Saucer and the Desert Prison. Along with Ester, he arranges for prisoners to become chocobo jockeys.

Mr. Dolphin - A dolphin who is friends with Pricilla. It is with Mr. Dolphin's help that Cloud is able to enter Junon for the first time.

Mr. Hangman - A Gold Saucer employee who mans the front desk of the Ghost Hotel, as well as the cash register at the hotel's small shop. He generally appears by dropping down from the ceiling, accompanied by a scream.

Mukki - A fun-loving, muscular guy who frequents the Honeybee Inn and calls Cloud "Bubby". Mukki can also be spotted at Costa del Sol's Bar del Sol, and in the basement bar in Icicle Inn.
