Q: What is IRC?
A: Internet Relay Chat, one of the oldest methods of chatting on the internet.

Q: Is IRC instant messaging?
A: NO. It's traditional channels (known to most as "chat rooms").

Q: Is IRC like AOL or Yahoo Chat Rooms?
A: NO. Straight text only. No fonts. No smileys.

Q: How do I use IRC?
A: You need an IRC client. Among the clients that are available are mIRC (popular Windows client), XChat (Unix-based multiplatform client), Colloquy (sleek client for Mac OS X), and Trillian (multi-network Windows client).

Q: Where is the FF7 Citadel Channel?
A: At DALnet, once you bring up IRC, from there:

• Go to File, then click "Select Server"
• Under "Connect" on the left hand "Categories", go to "IRC Network", scroll down to DALnet, click on "OK"
• The main window will connect you to DALnet. In the chat/text area, type: /join #ff7citadel
• A new window will open up, and you'll connect to the FF7Citadel channel.

Q: When is the best time to visit the FF7 Citadel Channel?
A: It's probably best to visit on the weekends, as most of the regulars are available then (as of this writing, a regular schedule is being hashed out). Any special gatherings on the channel will be announced ahead of time in the General Discussion wing of the Forums.

Q: I'm having problems connecting to the server. What do I do?
A: Check out this page for a list of servers, as apparantly connecting just to irc.dal.net does NOT work anymore.

Q: I'm getting the following error message: "Due to abuse from this domain, it is no longer welcome on DALnet." Is there anything I can do?
A: There's not a whole lot you could do to solve that aside from connecting via a proxy server. It basically means that DALnet has banned your entire ISP. I believe AOL is banned, if that's yours. DALnet's had a lot of trouble in recent years with the FBI due to warez popularity.

Q: Okay, I'm in the channel. Now what do I do?
A: Chat, but most of the time you'll idle. To show support for our channel, leave IRC connected to the FF7 Channel. Set it as a favorite, and log in whenever your computer is connected to the internet.

Q: How do I change the chat room's title?
A: Sorry, but you have to have Op status to be able to change the room title. Regular members cannot execute channel commands. Only channel operators can do that.

Q: What is registration?
A: Registration is optional for anyone not in control. You can choose whatever name you like, but if you register, you're guaranteed to have it. Basically, it's ideal that you register your name with DALnet.

Q: How do I register?
A: When connected to DALnet, type this command either in the main window or channel (replacing brackets with information denoted within): /nickserv register [desired password ] [email addy ]
