Final Fantasy VII Downloaded Over 100,000 Times on PSN

Sony has announced that Final Fantasy VII has racked up over 100,000 downloads since its release on the PlayStation Network's store, making it the fastest-selling PS1 title on the service. It's unclear whether this announcement takes into account all regional PlayStation Stores on which the game has been released, or if that's just the figure for North America.

Final Fantasy VII Hitting All PAL Region PlayStation Stores This Thursday

Never fear, European, Australian, and other PAL-land FFVII fans: Sony and Square Enix haven't forgotten about you. Thanks to Veedo in the comments of our last post for pointing us to this article over at Electronic Theatre which states that Final Fantasy VII will go on sale on the PlayStation Store in PAL regions tomorrow, June 4th. As with the initial N. American announcement, pricing details were not given. (Some have been given since; see ETA #2 and #3.)

ETA: We've gotten ahold of the official press release, which follows after the cut.

ETA #2: Thanks to Uncle Elmo for noting in the Forums' E3 discussion thread that the UK price for FFVII is £7.99 and that it clocks in at 1326 MB.

ETA #3 (06/04/09): PlayStation.Blog.Europe has confirmed that the European price will be €9.99 and that the French and German language versions have been delayed until tomorrow afternoon. ~ CloudANDTidus

Breaking News: Final Fantasy VII Now Available on PSN in North America

At today's Sony E3 press conference, Jack Tretton announced that many classic PS1 games will be coming to the PlayStation Network store, including—starting today—Final Fantasy VII. Pricing details were not mentioned. (They have been since; see ETA #3 below.)

Considering how long FFVII has been out of print in North America, we give this download our highest recommendation, especially for newer fans who have yet to play the original and want to see what all the fuss is about.

If any more information comes in, we'll be sure to post it. In the meantime, come join the E3 discussion in the Forums.

ETA: PlayStation.Blog's press conference liveblog notes that they will update with a post once the game goes up on the store; of course, we'll keep you all informed, too. Thanks to CloudANDTidus for the tip.

ETA #2: PlayStation.Blog has posted a full roundup of the day's PSN announcements, including the following: We’ve heard loud and clear that you want more classics from the PlayStation vault. Today we’re launching fan favorites, Final Fantasy VII and Medal of Honor. By the end of the year, the number of PSone games will double to nearly 60 titles. You’ll be able to enjoy these classics on the big screen with PS3 or on-the-go with PSP.

In addition, to publicize the game's rerelease, Square Enix Members has posted what is quite possibly the first new FFVII trailer in over ten years! Members can check it out here along with several other trailers, including ones for AC Complete and Dissidia: Final Fantasy.

ETA #3: Thanks to Pearl in the comments for pointing out that PlayStation.Blog has posted the price for FFVII on PSN: US$9.99! This is a much better price than some expected, as the Japanese PSN release of FFVII International costs ¥1,500, which is approximately US$15.50. On a related note, trailers, a PSP theme, and wallpapers for Dissidia: Final Fantasy were also made available.
