06/03/2009: "Final Fantasy VII Hitting All PAL Region PlayStation Stores This Thursday"

Never fear, European, Australian, and other PAL-land FFVII fans: Sony and Square Enix haven't forgotten about you. Thanks to Veedo in the comments of our last post for pointing us to this article over at Electronic Theatre which states that Final Fantasy VII will go on sale on the PlayStation Store in PAL regions tomorrow, June 4th. As with the initial N. American announcement, pricing details were not given. (Some have been given since; see ETA #2 and #3.)

ETA: We've gotten ahold of the official press release, which follows after the cut.

ETA #2: Thanks to Uncle Elmo for noting in the Forums' E3 discussion thread that the UK price for FFVII is £7.99 and that it clocks in at 1326 MB.

ETA #3 (06/04/09): PlayStation.Blog.Europe has confirmed that the European price will be €9.99 and that the French and German language versions have been delayed until tomorrow afternoon. ~ CloudANDTidus

London (3rd June 2009) – Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of Square Enix® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announces that FINAL FANTASY® VII will be available to download from the PlayStation®Store across PAL territories from Thursday, 4th June.

Get ready to return to Midgar. FINAL FANTASY VII, one of the most beloved and critically acclaimed Role Playing Games of all time, makes a long-awaited return this week, via digital download on the PlayStation®Store.

The original PS one® release has long been out-of-print and unavailable to a new generation of console owners and FINAL FANTASY fans. Now players will get another chance to own and experience the original adventure that brought us such memorable characters as Cloud Strife, Tifa Lockhart, Aerith Gainsborough, Barret Wallace, Vincent Valentine and the fearsome Sephiroth.

John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd. comments, “FINAL FANTASY VII is the most highly-respected entry in the history of the FINAL FANTASY franchise, possessing possibly the most memorable storyline in the history of videogames. It brings me great pleasure to see FINAL FANTASY VII available to play once again and I am sure that it will create a whole new generation of fans.”

FINAL FANTASY VII is available in all PAL countries where the PlayStation®Store is available.

Our adventure begins when a cold-hearted mercenary named Cloud Strife is hired to take part in a series of raids on ‘Mako’ energy reactors which his eco-warrior employers believe are draining the planet’s life-force. In the chaos that ensues, Cloud will make a discovery that will change his life, and the world, forever.

- One of the most critically acclaimed FINAL FANTASY games ever made returns
- Experience a classic storyline with some of the most shocking and memorable moments the FINAL FANTASY series has ever delivered
- A cast of legendary heroes and villains that have become fan favourites of players around the world
- The game that introduced Limit Breaks, spectacular near-death special moves to shock your opponents
- Master the Materia system to make your attacks stronger and unleash greater summons
- Playable on both the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Portable (PSP)
