New Crisis Core Trailer, Square Enix Party Details

The Jump Festa trailer for Crisis Core is now available online, and can be seen here (link via Final Fantasy Press). It contains much of the same footage as the TGS trailer, but also features plenty of new material. As usual, please be aware that there are potential spoilers. (Related link: Forums Discussion [contains spoilers]) (UPDATE [03/28/07]: Looks like the new trailer has been taken off YouTube. Fortunately, Gametrailers.com has a copy here. Thanks to TheMissingCloud for the link!)

In other news, Square Enix has released a list of what will be shown at their Square Enix Party, coming up in May. Among the FFVII-related titles being shown are Crisis Core, Before Crisis, and the Blu-Ray-only Advent Children Complete.

Finally, a little note of interest for my fellow collectors: it's recently come to my attention that a second series of Final Fantasy Master Creatures is on the way. Based on the Final Fantasy Creatures trading figures, the Master Creatures are larger, more detailed versions of the same. FFVII's Ifrit was featured in the first series of Master Creatures, and in Series 2, a magnificent Knights of the Round figure will make its debut. Along with the rest of Series 2, the Knights of the Round will be on sale in both Japan and North America this summer.

Three fan fiction updates

Today I have three major updates to the Fan Fiction archive. First up, the next three chapters of Enkida's "Ain't Like I Planned" are now online. As usual, please remember this is for mature readers only.

Next, new author LastCetra has come to the Citadel with her short story "Around The Flame". This story is based during Final Fantasy VII where Aeris is thinking about her journey so far, her race, Cloud, Zack and the new feelings she is experiencing. This is rated G, so check it out!

Finally, after over a year's hiatus, Yuronova has returned with the eleventh chapter of "Sacrifices". For newer Citadelers unaware, Sacrifices takes place just after Meteor's demise, where Cloud finds out that killing Sephiroth didn't have the result intended. Alongside only a few surviving allies, Cloud ventures to the City of the Ancients to see if there is a way to purge Sephiroth's existence altogether.

Enjoy these updates, and look forward to more soon. If your interested in adding your own fan fiction or article to our archives, please read the submission policy thoroughly before contacting us.

FFVII Not PS3-Compatible in Europe

While going through the European and Australian backwards compatibility list for the PS3, Citadel staffer CloudANDTidus noticed that Final Fantasy VII would not play on the console (other Final Fantasy games, including fellow PS1 titles FFVIII and FFIX, fared a bit better). As many of you may be aware, the European PS3, which arrives in stores this Friday, differs from the Japanese and North American ones in that PS1 and PS2 emulation is supported by software, as opposed to a dedicated chip.

In other news, an intriguing tidbit about this year's Square Enix Party has come down: in addition to previously announced titles like Crisis Core being shown at the event, a new Final Fantasy title will be unveiled for the first time. Though it may or may not be something FFVII-related (our source speculates that it might be an XBox 360 game) I'm sure that this bit of news will have us all awaiting May 12th with bated breath. (UPDATE [3/24/07]: It looks like the secret new FF game is probably a third FFXIII spinoff titled Final Fantasy Haeresis XIII [source].)

Finally, this is a bit belated, but I'd like to formally welcome The Slider onto the Citadel's staff as the Forums' new Serious Discussion Moderator.

New FFVII Merchandise on the Way

The Square Enix Products blog recently posted info about three upcoming FFVII-related items: Play Arts figures of Yuffie (in her AC/KH2 outfit) and Reno, and a "One Winged Angel" pendant. The pendant, which is being produced in light of FFVII's tenth anniversary, will be available in both a regular silver version and a limited-edition black version. Check out pics of the pendant and Play Arts prototypes here (note: text is in Japanese).

Also, this is as good of a time as any to remind our visitors to avoid bootlegged FFVII merchandise whenever possible; not only does Square Enix not see any revenue from such items, but they also have little to no collectable value and tend to be of poor quality. Square Enix Europe has information about how to recognize genuine jewelry and accessories, and our affiliate Tuulisti has a guide for spotting FFVII bootlegs on her own site.

Still More Crisis Core Details

IGN has posted a summary of a four-page Crisis Core article from Famitsu. Among the details revealed are Zack's last name and some new info about Angeal. A concrete street date for Crisis Core has not yet been given, though it looks like will be released in Japan before the end of this year; in addition, the game will be making an appearance at this year's Square Enix Party, coming up in May.

You can read the article here, but be aware that it does contain potential spoilers.

This Month's Theme, New Character Pages

As you can see, our theme for March 2007 is the One-Winged Angel himself, Sephiroth. This month's banner is by Prairis, whose work has graced our Advent Children-themed competitions in the past. If you happened to miss last month's theme, you can now get a glimpse of it on the Tenth Anniversary page.

Several years ago on the Citadel, there was a section under Game Information for "Characters", with a page for each of the major players. For today's update, this section has been reborn in the FFVII Encyclopedia as the FFVII Character Compendium, which has more information than the old pages, plus details for the various supporting characters from the game. Right now, the pages on Aeris and Sephiroth are up, as is info for the supporting characters; new pages for the rest of the cast will be added on a regular basis.

Finally, I'm pleased to announce that the Article Archive and Fanfiction sections are now once again fully open for business. My thanks goes out to Cyrus Dogstar for his invaluable assistance in updating the eFiction script. On a related note, the script for the frontpage has also been updated; if you happen to come across any technical errors either here or in the Article Archive and/or Fanfiction sections, please send me the details as soon as possible so that they can be looked into.
