There is Now a Real Shinra Company

This year's Tokyo Game Show has started, and with it have come interesting new announcements from Square Enix. Amongst these is the creation of a cloud gaming company called Shinra Technologies, created in partnership with Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios. You can't make this stuff up.

This new company's President Shinra is Yoichi Wada, best known as the former president of Square Enix itself; its Rufus Shinra is Jacob Navok. Instead of selling Mako energy and being headquartered in Midgar, Shinra Technologies "intends to change the game industry ecosystem by offering new types of game experiences through Shinra's proprietary cloud technologies" and is based in New York City, with satellite offices in Tokyo and Montreal.

The quote above was pulled directly from a press release at the new company's website, which is located at Shinra.com. For over fifteen years prior to this URL's acquisition by Square Enix, it was occupied by what seems to have been a wacky personal site.

At any rate, now we know what that Shinra Company trademark might've been for. In the meantime, a beta for the new cloud service is being planned for Japan in early 2015 and will include the "Agni's Philosophy" tech demo, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Tomb Raider, Hitman: Absolution, and, naturally, Final Fantasy VII.

Special thanks to Clidus for his help with this report.
