New and updated Advent Children theories

Today, we have a signifigant new addition to the Advent Children section's Speculations & Theories page; namely, a thought-provoking piece on the disease Geostigma. Thanks go out to Digital Holocaust for sending it in.

We also have a new "Wheelchair Person" theory, and a surprising one at that! In addition, the Rufus and Reeve theories have been amended, in response to recent new information about the mysterious Wheelchair Person.

New Advent Children trailer

A torrent for the latest Advent Children trailer (from this year's Tokyo Game Show) is now available in the Images & Media section. If you use this file, please keep BitTorrent/BitTornado open for as long as you can after the trailer is finished downloading (the more available peers, the better)! Also, feel free to host this torrent on your own site.

Please note that the movie itself is in Winamp Media format, and you will need Winamp with video support to be able to play it. If anyone has a copy of this trailer in another format (QuickTime, Windows Media, etc.), please let me know.

Dirge of Cerberus plot details

Square-Enix put out a press release yesterday afternoon regarding their "polymorphic" project known as the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. The most interesting part of the release is a paragraph containing info about Dirge of Cerberus' plot:

DIRGE of CERBERUS is the brand new game for the PlayStation 2 and is set three years after the original FINAL FANTASY VII continuing the award-winning story.

DIRGE of CERBERUS begins with the sudden appearance of a mysterious group raiding local towns. They are known as the Deep Ground Soldiers (DG Soldiers), a band of warriors driven to hide underground because of the disastrous Meteor. Our hero, Vincent Valentine, is somehow connected with these events, yet in what way remains unclear. And when the world is veiled in darkness, it is his revolver that will ring out the dirge ... But Vincent won't be alone -- he'll be joined by other characters from FINAL FANTASY VII.

So it seems that the game's antagonists are called the Deep Ground Soldiers, and not Dirge of Cerberus, as many assumed. Also, the note at the end about other characters seems promising-- besides Cait Sith, what other familiar faces will we see?

Dirge of Cerberus, FAQs, Ehrgeiz, and more!

A couple of new details have come about regarding Dirge of Cerberus, and a stunning screenshot of Vincent (detail at left) has been officially released. Cloud's appearance in the game has been hinted at, but we have yet to see any visual proof. However, Cait Sith (without his moogle) has been spotted in a screenshot in the Japanese magazine V-Jump, but his exact role is currently unknown.

In other news, the FAQs have been updated, a couple of pages on Ehrgeiz have been added, and a new FMV error has been discovered...

Before Crisis section expanded

There are now two new pages in the Citadel's Before Crisis section-- Story and Characters. More pages and information are forthcoming...

In addition, I've updated the Characters page in the Advent Children section for new info about Reno and Rude, as well as for a better image of Yuffie and a completely new one of Zack.

Finally, I've updated the Links page, removing a few dead links and adding two new ones. If you plan to submit a link in the future, please note the revised Top Recommendations and Affiliation criteria.

Correction and an Update

Okay, so it seems like Dirge of Cerberus takes place a year after Advent Children, not FF7... my mistake. As for a release date, all we know is that it's slated to come out in 2005. Also, the game is very early in its development, and the exact genre of the game is "undetermined". Maybe it'll be an RPG after all?

News on the Vincent game!

The third FF7 spinoff-- about which little was known, save that it was going to feature Vincent Valentine-- has been revealed to be a PS2 game called Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus. Our sources note that Dirge of Cerberus seems to be a Devil May Cry-esque action game; early screenshots feature a crimson-cloaked Vincent under fire from what look like Shinra troops. The story takes place a year after the events of FF7, and the plot centers around Vincent fighting a group known as "DG" (or "DC"?). As of this writing, the only other FF7 character expected to make an appearance is Reeve, who is apparently mentioned by Vincent in a screenshot; hopefully we'll see him and many other characters in the future.

I suspect that we'll learn more about this game after next week's Square-Enix press conference at the Tokyo Game Show, so stay tuned. And as usual, if you have any information (or screenshots!), please contact the Webmaster.

Fanfiction and Fanart sections updated

As promised, we have some new fanfics and fanart.

First off are the remaining twelve chapters of Empy Claw's delightfully silly Final Fantasy Cheese. For something completely different, check out Gavin Mitchell's dark drama Final Fantasy VII: Resurrection Dreams. Both fics can be found in the Epics wing of the Fanfiction section.

In the Fanart category, we welcome a new artist, Noacat, to the Citadel. Also, I've updated ChibiTaryn's gallery (for her 2002 Christmas card), as well as my own (for my 2003 holiday card and two other pieces).

Enjoy!

Itadaki Street Special

Under Game Information, I've added a page about the FFVII character cameos in Itadaki Street Special, Square-Enix's Dragon Quest/Final Fantasy crossover board game. Cloud and Tifa (and possibly others?) will be appearing in this PS2 title, which is due out this winter in Japan.

Other than that, I've been tweaking some bits of the site here and there; you may also notice that the Google ads are now active. In addition, there's been some fanfic and fanart submissions coming in, so I'll be sure to get them up fairly soon.
