08/26/2009: "FFVII Remake Query Answered Yet Again"

During an interview at last week's GamesCom convention in Cologne, Germany, interviewers from VG247 asked Square Enix's Motomu Toriyama and Yoshinori Kitase if Final Fantasy VII will ever be remade. Their reply, through a translator, was that they talk about such a project on a personal level, but there is no remake officially in the works. They also noted that fans can play the original FFVII on PSN for the time being.

I really think that for once they aren't going to announce this 5 years before it comes out. They don't want interest to be waned for FFXIII. Versus seems a long time out so maybe after FFXIII and FFXIV they will announce something..

If a remake is under consideration, it's hard to imagine how they're gonna do it without considerable expansion of the maps. For example, Midgar's the biggest city in the game and there's only about two dozen screens worth of territory. In the case they do, they're running a risk of upsetting the purists.

Any and all changes in a remake will he subject to criticism by someone. Personally, I felt that the super-deformed characters were part of the original's charm. That's something I'd miss in a remake. Not enough to put me off though ;)

I guess we just need to wait until Square remakes all "Final Fantasy"s before VII.
The last remade FF was IV for NDS, so, we just need to wait some years, so they can remake V, VI, and finally they'll have no choice except remaking VII. XD
