05/06/2009: "Int'l Releases of AC Complete Won't Include FFXIII Demo"

Advent Children Complete and Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase has confirmed what many have speculated for a little while now: the FFXIII demo that came with certain versions of AC Complete will not be included with the Blu-ray outside of Japan. The reason behind this is because: "we are going to carry on with the project (FFXIII) alongside the Xbox version, so we really can't just make it available only for the PS3." However, this does not mean that Westerners will not be getting any sort of FFXIII demo at all, as Square Enix is currently exploring the possibility of a downloadable one.

As a reminder, AC Complete comes out in North America on June 2nd; a release date (or dates) for PAL regions have not yet been announced.

It's not that they aren't making it available for the 360... it's that Microsoft decided not to make BluRay available to the 360.. so who's fault is that?

In M$'s defense, it's not just the Blu-ray drive, but the fact that the PS3 and 360 have different processor setups. Even if the 360 did have Blu-ray, the FFXIII demo would have to be fully ported to the system, and who knows how long that would take.

I'm all for the download option. This way, the demo will be cheaper (or even free!) for those who want to play it without getting AC Complete. And depending on when it comes, we may even get a better demo than the Japanese have, and one that better represents the finished game.

To be honest it is rather unlikely that Square-Enix will release the demo in its current PS3 only state becuase it's in Japanese. This may be fine for us, but if some average joe gamer downloaded that of Xbox LIVE it would probably give them a negative opinion of the product. When they see it in stores there only gong to think "I'm not buying that strange Japanese thing I didn't understand".

We may still get a demo, but I would expect that it wouldn't come until after the Japanese release when localization has started and the 360 version is in production.
