06/27/2006: "FFVII on the go"

Ever since it was revealed that a PSOne Emulator would be included in a future software update for the PSP, many have looked forward to the possibility of playing the original FFVII on the go. Back in April, Joystiq made a report about some images of the Emulator interface which included FFVII as one of the titles that would be available for download. The pictures were soon dismissed as fakes due to various inconsistencies.

There has generally been skepticism as to whether Final Fantasy VII and other FF titles would ever be available due to the sheer size of the original games. However according to the latest issue of the UK PSP Magazine, both Final Fantasy VII and VIII will be titles available on the launch of the service (which is supposedly October). We'll be on the lookout for more details and hope it isn't just another rumour.

Square Enix has not stated that Final Fantasy VII would be released on the PS3. It was at E3 that they made a teaser demo of the game, when people speculated that the demo was giving hints that square enix would be releasing a newer version of the game. However, they have not publically stated that they would be releasing the game.

I don't have a PSP yet, but if they ever released FF7 or 8 on it, that alone would give me reason to buy one. :D Think I'll wait for confirmation though...

Umm, Honourless, what's your point?

This may persuade me into getting a PSP, but... I don't think so.

Then again, I've seen the emulator for the SNES on PSP and that was pretty shonky (lag & poor sound quality for some reason; program needed improving). So, the PSOne emu might take awhile to sort out it's bugs, especially since it's a higher-level console than the SNES and they couldn't do that properly at first.

And by the time they fix that, there could be some cool new kid on the block. Like Wii =D.

Al/Dawny/Undecided, those SNES emulators on PSP are simply homebrew projects by fans; I expect a professional product would run much more smoothly, even with a more advanced system.

Heh, being able to play FF7 and FF8 on the PSP would be very cool. Especialy as my first FF7 disc is rapidly dieing and GameStation want £25 for a preowned copy. o.O

Thats like... above the orginal platimum price.

Anyway, what I would like to see on the PSP Emu service more is the ORGINAL Final Fantasy Tactics. Was never released in Europe.

Yeah, honurless... o.0

And Dawn Treader, you should've known that. An 'official Sony SNES Emulator'? :-/ It was fan-made.

Sony has all the original codes to classic games, and in fact, as you can't just go out and buy a copy of, oh say, Magic Carpet anymore, it's nice to know we're moving into an era where we can buy games over an internet connection.

The Wii's, i think, is going to jump into this idea nicely.

I knew it was coming out on PSP! I told you all! No one listens to me! But I was finaly right!

Yeah, I realised my folly a little while after posting that. =\

But like many of the commentors on Joystiq, I'm still kinda iffy about this... Why would they pick those games and then shove FF7 in there? It seems kinda random...

(Aside from MGS and a few others, of course)
