Plenty of New Crisis Core Screenshots

Jeux France has posted a whopping 93 screenshots from the North American version of Crisis Core, which ships on March 25th. These shots depict not only battles, cutscenes, and the like, but also the game's menus, which are somewhat reminiscent of those found in the original FFVII. Not much more to say except check them out, and be mindful that they may contain potential spoilers.

Four More Crisis Core Videos

Originating from GDC 08, these four new Crisis Core videos show a variety of gameplay, story and speech. One trailer shows Zack fighting against Wutai soldiers as he makes his way through what appears to be their base. While another trailer consists of a conversation between Zack and Angeal about Apples. I'll leave the other two trailers unspoiled.

Final Fantasy VII... for the Famicom!

GameSniped, a blog devoted to video game rarities, has posted an entry about a Chinese-produced version of Final Fantasy VII for the Famicom/Nintendo Entertainment System. According to the author, this version of FFVII is "not a Sprite Hack, but a fully original game."

This 8-bit pirate version of FFVII contains six playable characters, a materia system similar to that in the original (official) game, no summons or limit breaks, and music ripped from FFII and FFIII. It's a lengthy article, complete with screenshots, and well worth checking out. For even more, see this entry at Cinnamon Pirate.

Crisis Core Official Site Updated

Lots of new features have fleshed out the official Crisis Core site as of late. First off is the new "Episode 2" trailer, which is right on the home page. Character profiles for Cloud, Genesis, Sephiroth, and Aerith (yes, not "Aeris") have been added, as has a section describing the battle system and a "Multimedia" section with screenshots and downloads. In addition, in the preorder link, it's been revealed that one retailer (Best Buy) will have the game available in a exclusive metallic case.

Additional content will be added to the site at a later date. Be forewarned that, like so many of Square Enix's sites, the Crisis Core one is Flash-heavy and will take a while to load up. Thanks go out again to Tseng-and-co for the tipoff!

ETA: Correction appended, more info added.

Crisis Core Character Profiles

Again from IGN is the first of a series of weekly features about the characters of Crisis Core. This inaugural installment focuses on old favorites Zack and Sephiroth, as well as Compilation newcomers Angeal and Genesis, going into detail about their personalities and backgrounds. Included with the piece are character images and the two videos mentioned in our previous post. Potential spoilers abound, so tread lightly.

New Crisis Core Videos With English-Language Voices

Thanks to Tseng-and-co on the Forums for pointing us to a pair of Crisis Core videos that have recently appeared on IGN. These high-quality vids showcase some of the in-game cutscenes: one from early on in the story, and another from CC's version of the Nibelheim incident. Most interesting about these videos is that they give us a taste of the English-language voices for Zack, Lazard, Angeal, and Sephiroth. If you're interested in the game, they're well worth checking out, but be aware that minor spoilers are present.

FF7 Remake Rumours Resurface

But don't get too excited. Hajime Tabata (Director of the FF7 Prequel, Crisis Core) has been quoted as saying:

“The possibility for a remake may become greater if, for instance, the schedules of the original members of the Final Fantasy VII development team, such as Kitase and Nomura, open up"

While it's more than likely this statement is nothing more than idle chit chat, it does ReRaise the old question of whether or not the concept of a remake is on Square-Enix's mind. However, if it is something they plan, with Final Fantasy XIII still in the works it's safe to assume that it will be a long time before we'll be seeing a FF7 Remake on their to-do list.

This Month's Theme, Small Site Update

For the month of Feburary, our theme is dedicated to everyone's favorite foul-mouthed chain-smoking pilot, Cid Highwind. Thanks goes out to Inami for this month's banner artwork! As usual, all of our previous themes may be found on the Tenth Anniversary page.

As for today's new content: Cid joins the rest of the gang to complete the Character Compendium, and a new Tifa drawing by myself is now up in the Fanart section.
