Welcome New Affiliate, FFVII Demo Version History, More

First off, I'd like to welcome Tuvai.net as our newest affiliate. Be sure to check them out!

As for new content, for the Game Information section, I've compiled a good deal of information about the various demo versions of Final Fantasy VII that have been released, and have included numerous screenshots from the infamous Tobal No. 1 Sampler CD. Also new under Game Info is an update to the Name Origins page, and now under Fanart is what I believe is our very first Dirge of Cerberus-specific work, by Wyna Hiros.

Staff Shuffle and Other Updates

As the regulars on the Forums already know, there has recently been an overhaul to the staff arrangements for that part of the Citadel. For more information about this arrangement, and what it means as to how the Forums with be run, please see Reno's thread here. On a related note, the Staff page is now up-to-date to account for these changes.

In other news, this Monday's press release about the North American release of Advent Children has been added to Press Clippings, the AC FAQ has been updated with the new information, and, as a convenience, the Compilation of FFVII index page itself has been slightly redesigned to include release date info for various parts of the world. And last but not least, there's a new chapter of Yuronova's Sacrifices available in the Epics wing of the Fanfiction section.

Dirge of Cerberus Sales Drop Off in Japan

This is a little bit out of date, but still worth noting: Joystiq reported today that despite a healthy first week of sales (392,000 units sold in Japan), Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII slipped to seventh place the following week with sales of only 45,000. Undoubtedly, one reason for the decline in sales may have to do with the lackluster reviews the game has received thus far-- including one by the highly-respected Japanese game magazine Famitsu that was delayed for three weeks.

International release plans for DC have yet to be announced. We'll keep on top of any new developments as they occur.

Advent Children Release Date update. Official Square-Enix announcement

Following the chaos of the last week, 1UP is now running a story about the U.S. Advent Children release. According to 1UP, the U.S. can expect to see the movie in stores on the 25th of April. The story includes an English Cast list. Many roles are filled by known anime Voice Artists with a few key star names in place such as Mena Suvari and Rachel Leigh Cook (people may be pleased to know that Lance Bass is not among them).

1UP claims that the delays to Advent Children were due to last minute signings of certain artists. If true, this of course raises the question as to whether voice work and dubbing has been fully completed and whether we will not see further delays to the release.

Thanks to Ludo from the forums for posting the information.

ADDITIONAL:
We can now happily confirm that both the date and at least some of voice artists mentioned in the 1UP story is correct. An official announcement has been made on the North American Square-Enix site. Information including the price and contents of the DVD are included in the announcement.

Yet Another Advent Children Release Date

Now here's something promising. According to a member of our affliate Adventchildren_, the official North American website for AC was updated with a release date of April 25th of this year; it seems that information about voice actors and DVD extras was also included in the update. However, this particular update has since been retracted, leaving only a blank page in the news section with yesterday's date as a header. We hope to have more information on this purpoted release date soon; thanks goes out to CloudANDTidus on the Forums for the tip.

Update: Advent Children European Release Date

Thanks to Digital Holocaust for the news that the previously reported April 24th date for the European release of Advent Children is likely to be fake. According to RPGamer, the German website GameStar has reported that Sony denies having officially given a release date. Provided that GameStar's information is accurate, then chances are we haven't seen the last of the European release date rumors, at least until some sort of genuine official announcement is made. And of course, official release dates for North America, Australia, and other locales (outside of Japan) are still unknown at this time. Stay tuned...

Kingdom Hearts 2 Casting Details

Square Enix issued a press release today which reveals some new details regarding the voice casting for the upcoming English-language version of Kingdom Hearts 2. Of interest to FFVII fans is the news that Rachel Leigh Cook will be voicing Tifa (who did not appear in the previous KH games), and-- in a surprising development-- Mena Suvari has replaced Mandy Moore as the voice of Aerith; Cloud, on the other hand, is still being played by Steve Burton. And speaking of cast members from the original Kingdom Hearts, there's no mention in the press release as to whether or not Christy Carlson Romano and Lance Bass will be reprising the roles of Yuffie and Sephiroth, respectively.

Advent Children Region 2 Release date

Following the recent suggestions that the U.S. release for Advent Children may not be until the end of 2006, the games site Eurogamer has posted news claiming that Sony Pictures has announced the European release of the title will be this April. The 24th to be exact. What is more, the article suggests that the voice talent of Steve Burton, Mandy Moore (both featuring in the Kingdom Hearts videogame) and Jessica Alba will all be featuring in the film. At present, this new cast information remains unconfirmed.

Although no trace of Advent Children can be found on the Sony Pictures website, the DVD website DVD Times does show a tentative release schedule made by Sony which has an Advent Children release slated for April the 24th in the UK. It should be noted that this date is for the REGION 2 DVD version and what is more, may be subject to change.

Thanks go to forum member CloundANDTidus for his post on the subject. You can discuss this development on the forums here (as always be aware that SPOILERs may crop up).

Update on U.S. Advent Children Release

News has been circulating for a few days now with Slashdot and various other sites running stories on a possible U.S. release date for Advent Children. The stories follow information which appeared on DVD site The Digital Bits, when it mentioned Sony's efforts to get the DVD released in the U.S. before 'the end of 2006.'

Delays are attributed to extra time being taken to get 'supplemental elements finished.' The source is claimed to be a Sony executive. Very little has ever been heard from Sony Pictures in regards to the US release and aside from the tentative speculations of various online stores, this is one of the few pieces of information to surface after the last delay to the release. Those disappointed with the vague and distant timeframe however may take heart in the fact that this remains an unconfirmed and isolated report with no official word or announcements from Sony Pictures confirming that any of this is true or not.
