07/31/2009: "Rumor Mill: Square Enix's "VII Days" Teaser Site"
Square Enix has launched a new teaser site with the words "VII DAYS" and a countdown timer, seemingly promising a reveal on August 7th.
The rumor mill has started, as Destructoid and other sites are speculating a Final Fantasy VII remake. However, the font used for the text is not the classic Final Fantasy font, nor does it resemble the ones used for the Compilation's various logos. There is also the fact that the numerical countdown timer only includes hours, minutes, and seconds; the "VII" seems to be part of the timer itself (if it reads "VI DAYS" tomorrow [Tokyo time], then this is most certainly the case).
At the moment, it could be almost anything, including an entirely new IP. Of course, if it does turn out to be a new FFVII-related project, we'll keep you all informed.

ETA: Thanks to our visitors in the comments for verifying the VII's role as part of the countdown clock. Also, a reader at Kotaku discovered two pieces of artwork buried in the site's code, which are pictured here. Right now, Kotaku speculates it's a port of arcade title Lord of Vermillion and/or a game called Gyromancer. Either way, it looks like the old FFVII remake rumor has been dealt another blow.
