06/18/2008: "Assorted News Bits: Dissidia, Golden Joystick Awards, New Products"

Lots of little bits of news lately. First off is an update on Dissidia Final Fantasy, the PSP fighting game that features characters from several titles in the series, including FFVII's Sephiroth. PSP Fanboy reports that according to producer and character designer Tetsuya Nomura, the game is fifty percent complete. On a related note, via Kotaku comes the news that Dissidia, along with the upcoming PSP and DS Kingdom Hearts spinoffs, will be playable at Square Enix's DKΣ3713 event, happening in Japan in August. Also featured at this event will be a trailer for the Compilation of FFVII's own piece of vaporware, Advent Children Complete.

Next up: the nominees for the Golden Joystick Awards have been revealed, and Crisis Core is up for Handheld Game of the Year. Other noteable nominees in the Handheld category include The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, Patapon, and The World Ends With You. Voting in all categories is open to anyone, so check it out!

The Square Enix Official Online Merchandise Store now has the second wave of Final Fantasy VII Play Arts available for purchase; this series consists of Yuffie, Sephiroth, Vincent, and a set with Red XIII and Cait Sith. Aside from more realistic proportions for the human characters (most notably, smaller eyes), and Cait's moogle not being included in the set he's in, the FFVII Play Arts are quite faithful to the original game's character designs.

Finally, for my fellow Final Fantasy music fans: DS Fanboy reports that a new album called Final Fantasy Remix will be released in Japan on August 6th and will feature familiar Nobuo Uematsu compositions remixed by Ante. Though a final track listing has yet to be confirmed, we'd be surprised if FFVII wasn't represented in some way.

By the way, if you get just one FFVII Play Arts, I highly recommend the Cloud Strife and Hardy Daytona set. It is awesome.
