09/22/2007: "Crisis Core Releases, PSP Sales Skyrocket"

Gamesindustry.biz reports that the PSP was the top-selling console in Japan during the week ending September 16th with 95,487 units. The PSP's clinching of the top spot, which is usually dominated by the Nintendo DS, doubtless had something to do with Crisis Core's launch; additionally, the FFVII 10th Anniversary PSP Slims sold during that week more than likely counted toward the total sales figure. Meanwhile, Crisis Core itself was Japan's top selling game during its debut week with 487,659 units.

Hopefully, Sony will realise this, and will ask square-enix for a ffVII PS3 remake, in order for the PS3 sales to skyrocket too.

One thing you forgot to note in your report Reeve is that in the period you mentioned the PSP Slim and Lite was launched so this may also have boosted the sales of the console.

Dude, the new PSP small & whatever cost a fourth of what I paid for mine! I only bought the stupid thing for CC, and it didn't come out till two years later! Besides, I bet that a bunch of nerdy japanese teenagers had the same thoughts as I did (they just waited for the game to come out before they went and wasted $400 on a PSP). I mean, for the love of god! We only get one original Final Fantasy of PSP. Not complaining though.
