05/24/2006: "Final Fantasy VII Remake Coming... Or Is It?"

According to the June 2006 issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, a remake of Final Fantasy VII is being planned for a 2007 release. However, Square Enix reps told IGN that the company "has never stated this".

While it does not fully discount the possibility of a remake, for now, we should chalk this one up to the rumor mill-- especially since Yoshinori Kitase, in an October 2005 EGM article, said that if an FFVII remake would come to pass, it would take about five years to make.

5 years is a very long time

Even if they did make a remake of FFVII,why would it take them five years to create it? It only took them like 3 or 4 years to create FFX.

FFXII took roughly five years to make-- that may be the current yardstick. Of course, FFXII has seen its share of production problems; don't know if Kitase had that in mind (ie., the possibility of delays occurring) when he made his estimate.

Well if they did manage to cover it up and the tech demo is a real game (I'm still leaning towards it not being a game and never being a remake) then they could have had the game in production for quite some time...

I reckon that with a bit of graphic tweaking, VII would be a great release for the PSP. That's just my oppinion, though...

And we can trust EGM how much?

Even if they did a remake and then bought it over, it would most likey have voices and the dubbs here SUCK. So there's no way I would play it unless I was in Japan. It would be awesome if they did do a remake, but I don't really mind. It wouldn't give me the same feeling I have as if I were playing the original game.

I would love to see a remake, but yes, I must admit I'm afraid of the changes they would make. In all honesty, I'd rather have the game exactly the same, aside from an improvement in the resolution (obviously), perhaps some new, neat materia, and an orchestrated soundtrack (BUT, with the option to play with the old, MIDI soundtrack). Please don't change anything else!

This remake is important to me because the playstation sucks at antialiasing, and FFVII looks horrific on my DLP projector :-(

Personally I don't mind if there isn't a remake for PS3 as the sad truth is I wouldn't pay $600+ for a remake of a game I already own (if I got a PS3 it would be different, but the thing is just so darn expensive I'll probably just go with a Wii). Personally I wish that if they do a remake it will be one with tweaked graphics for PC (the platform for everyone!).

I'm still on my stance that one day it will probably be remade. However, as it is right now, unless we had heard something at E3, I doubt we will until at least next may.

Keep on praying people...

I have an update for the errors, mistakes, and contradictions. I know it's not a error but it is a mistake or contradiction. At Rocket Town in Cids house there is a car in the room. Tell me how did he get it in there. Or did he build it in there. And why does the Buggy Vehical that you get from Dio have 4 wheels on each side yet no other vehical in the game does. Please email me if you put this on the site. Thank You

I think you put that in the wrong place, man.

I could care less if they remake FFVII or not,but if they do happen to do so,I will get it if it's possible for me to do so at the time.

Ernest Leonard: Definately the wrong place, and I don't see either one of those things as being an error/mistake/contradiction...

Personally, no PS3 remake for me, thanks-- they would change the game a lot. Also, considering the voice acting in KH2 and AC, I wouldn't be too crazy about that aspect of things. A port of the game with some slight improvements (say, to the DS) or a rerelease of the PS1 and/or PC versions would be nice, though.

Well, perhaps if it gets remade they'd be able to get a lot of the things that didn't get in the first time would be able to get completed, such as the unfinished cave outside the capitol. just an opinion
