05/12/2006: "Major Changes Planned for Dirge of Cerberus' North American Localization"

GameSpot recently posted an article covering the various changes Square Enix has planned for the North American version of Dirge of Cerberus, currently scheduled for release this August. These changes include a faster running pace for Vincent, a new double-jump move, the elimiation of the "easy" difficulty mode, and the addition of an unlockable "extra hard" mode that contains forty special missions. Much of the content for this latter addition is being adapted from the Japanese version's online multiplayer mode, which will not be included in the North American release. If you'd like to learn more, you can read the full article here.

Another recent article at GameSpot covers their impressions of Before Crisis, as shown at Square Enix's E3 booth this year. That article can be found here.

Well that just sucks.

Yeah. Considering the reasons they've given, I can see why they aren't keeping it, though I thought PlayOnline was doing better than that. I guess most of FFXI's players are using the PC?

Not to mention that the game did bad in Japan and most likely that Square won't risk the same thing in USA. I feel its stupid because people in US have more of an affection to shooter games than people in Japan.

UNBELIVEABLE! Some of us suck at shooter-games, so this is kinda disapointing.

Sony really shot Square in the foot by haulting support for the HDD. It wasn't even released here.

They probably planned to make it Online only in Japan from the start.

Ah well, lets hope these improvements make it a better game in all. As people above have said, part of its failer is probably Japanese lack of interest in shooters and action.

How much do you want to bet that it will be delayed like Advent Children? heh

I for one am happy... The gameplay descriptions of DoC were setting me up for huge disappointments, but now that they're fixing it a little it should be better.

Now I only have the story to worry about.

The story will more than likely not disappoint you.
