>From Bugenhagen's Explanation of the Holy Materia up to the Death of Rufus ------------ (at Cosmo Canyon after completing the huge materia quests) Bugen: Ho ho ho. You are welcome to come here anytime when you need an old man's advice. Claude: That's why we're here. Bugen: So... you lost your way? Do not know where to go next? ...Look at yourselves deeply, each of you. What is it that you are forgetting? Something should be there, bothering you... try to remember it. That's the key you are looking for. Claude: It's easier said than done...I can't remember... Bugen: It's there. Meditate and look into yourself. Cid: Ahhh... this is pointless. Claude, call the others. Claude: (calls the rest of the party with mobile phone) ------------ (a while later, still inside BugenHagen's house. The whole group is there) Bugen: Now, did you find it? Cait: No...I'm stumped. Yufi: Me too! Claude: I thought of Aerith... No. I didn't suddenly remember. I never forgot her in the first place. How do I say this... she was just THERE, with us always... she was too close so I never noticed what she did...what she said... Tifi: I thought the same... Red: And me too... Barret: ...same here. Claude: She said, 'I'm the only one who can stop Sephiroth and the Meteo'. Tifa: But Aerith is not here anymore... Red: Do you think we can try to do what she was doing? Barett: We're not Setras though. Cid: Why did that girl go to that place (Shell Village) anyway? Claude: THAT's IT!! Cid: What? Claude: We don't even know why. What was Aerith doing? Why didn't she run when she knew that Sephiroth was there? Red: We need to go back there one more time. Bugen: Ho ho ho... I'll come with you. Red: G.grandpa!? You too?! Bugen: Don't worry... I want to go outside too sometimes. Red: The planet is asking you to help, grandpa! Cid: Heh... the planet. (leaves) Bugen: Ho ho ho... off we go now. (everyone leaves except for Claude and Bugen) Claude: BugenHagen, I have one more favor. We're still holding onto the Huge Materias. They are fragile and we need a place to keep them. Bugen: Ho ho ho...right above here is a good place. I will teach you how to use this machine, watch carefully. (pulls a lever, and the platform rises up to the planeterium) Ho ho ho... so these are the huge materia. such rare things. They might have special powers. Let's go down now, you know how to come up here. Feel free to come again if you need the huge materias. ------------ (back in Cid's airship, Highwind) Bugen: The smell of machines...I like this smell. Of course I'm fond of the smell of nature too. ?? What's above? The deck? I'll stay there... I feel the will of the planet from smelling the wind, and the machines show the splendor of mankind... (leaves) Cait: I told Aerith's stepmother about her death... Elmina-san was crying... and so was little Marin. ------------ (at the Setra Village/ Shell Village) Bugen: So this is te place... (floats and looks around the room) Claude: Did you find anything? Bugen: Could you give me more time? (sees the crystal in the center of the room, on an altar) The swirling Setra spirits in this room say one thing only, "Danger of the Planet...a grave danger during which mortals are helpless. When nothing can be done, even if you had endless time... you can do nothing but search for the Holy." Claude: Holy? Bugen: The most potent white magic, Holy. Antithesis of Meteo. It's a prayer that protects the planet... if Earth hears your with, Holy appears. Ho ho ho! Meteo...the Weapons... they all will just DISappear!!.... and perhaps us too. Claude: WHY US!? Bugen: That's something Earth must decide. What is 'good or 'bad' for the planet... all the 'bad' will die when Holy comes. It's as simple as that...ho ho ho. Now...human beings... I wonder which catergory we fall into. Claude: ..... How do we find Holy? Bugen: Talk to the planet, but the White Materia is the only link between people and Earth. If the planet answers your prayer, the White Materia should glow a liiiight green color. Claude: (shakes his head sadly) ...It's the end then. Aerith had the White Materia... when she died, it fell from the altar into the pool... so...we're finished! Bugen: Ho ho ho!! Look at this! Claude: ??? Bugen: Ancient heiroglyphs. Claude: (with new hope) And you can read this?! Bugen: Ab-so-LUTE-ly NOT! Claude: Look...I'm not in the mood for taking jokes right now... Bugen: I'm not an Ancient, of course I cannot read this! But.. even my old eyes can see some other writing underneath the heiroglyphs. Claude: The part written in chalk... "Where light does not reach"..."Key"...?? Bugen: Scholars who discovered this place tried to decipher the writing... two phrases were all they could do. Claude: A Key... for what? Bugen: Who knows. A key to unlock the secret of this altar. A secret...perhaps connected to Aerith herself. Claude: And this chalk memo is referring to the location of the key? Bugen: Possibly. Now, go search for it, and I'll stay here trying to translate the rest of the writing. Claude: The key is in the place where there's no light? Bugen: When you find the key, or when you are lost.. come back here. The truth lies in the writing and I'll try to decipher it. ----------- (back at the Setra Village after finding the key) Bugen: Good, you found it! Over there is a music box, that is where the key belongs. Wait here and watch carefully what happens. (goes to the music box and places key. It unlocks a dam above and water falls over the altar, making a neat circular curtain.) Bugen: This waterfall acts as a screen for a hologram. Look! (Aerith FMV, White Materia falls out of her hair and into the water) Claude: It's glowing. Bugen: Ho ho ho! A liiight green. Claude: Aerith... she already had chanted Holy after I gave the Black Materia to Sephiroth. The dream I had... she told me that she could save the world if she was here... that was Holy she was talking about. She meant that she alone had the White Materia... she knew what she had to do! She left us hope... but in return she lost her life! Aerith... I'm sorry. I should have noticed! I could't even talk to you... you left us so soon and I panicked...I didn't think and that's why I didn't notice... but it's too late now to tell you. Aerith...now I understand. Don't worry, I'll do the rest. Cid: Shithead!! Not I'LL do the rest. WE'LL do the rest. US!! Tifa: We can't waste Aerith's life. Claude: (nods) Thanks Aerith. The planet did hear her prayer because the White Materia was glowing. But where is Holy?? Why isn't it here yet?? Bugen: Something is in its way. Claude: ....him... It can only be him. Sephiroth, where are you now... (phone rings) Claude: (to phone) What? Cait: Excuse me...just some big news... Claude: What happened? Cait: Remember the cannon at Junon? Rufus transported it. Claude: What!? Transported where? And what for? Cait: Rufus is planning to kill Sephiroth with it. That cannon was powered by Huge Materias, but now that Shinra doesn't have them anymore, they couldn't use the cannon as it is. They moved it to a place where there's concentrated Makou energy. Claude: Where is this place? (FMV with helicopters circling the cannon which is now in Midgard. The cannon is fueled by the ring of Makou reactors.) ------------ (inside Rufus' office) Rufus: Reeve. It's your job to regulate the Makou output. Reeve: (reluctantly) yes sir... *(for those of you who do not know, Reeve IS Cait Sith. Cait is only a robot body which was sent to Claude's party to spy on them. Now Cait acts as a counterspy, getting valuable information of the Shinra Company for Claude. Cait Sith acts as a 'radio', letting Claude's party hear the voices of Rufus, Scarlett, and Heidegger. Cait Sith has not yet told Claude about his true identity though.) Scarlett: (giggles) Output? Reeve, you don't need to. Just go FULL BLAST!! Heidegger: Hahahaha! It's brilliant, Mr President, about your idea that the Meteo exists only because Sephiroth exists. Scarlett: Mr President, don't forget that it was MY idea to alternately power the cannon with Midgard's reactors. Rufus: Are you positive that the northern crater is within the Makou Cannon's range? Scarlett: (giggles) Of course it is. But Mr President, don't call it the Makou Cannon. It has a name- the Sister Ray! ------------ (meanwhile, Claude boards the Highwind) (earthquake, Weapon appears in the ocean north of Midgard) Claude: ?? (inside Highwind airship) Cid: (to crew, who are having a hard time steering the ship) What's wrong?! Crew: Captian, we are getting EMRs from somewhere! Cid: Somewhere!? Crew: From... (looks at Cait Sith).. him sir! Cait: Sorry! Controlling this robot body got out of hand... We're in trouble! A Weapon just came out of the water and it's heading toward Midgard! Cid: But the Cannon can blast it! Cait: If it's loaded in time... Barett: What's going to happen to Marin!? Cait: Marin and Elmina are safe. I assure you. (Barett scratches his head, and then turns away) Cait: Barett!? What was that?! As long as Marin is safe, whatever happens to the others don't matter!? I always wanted to tell you this- When you exploded Reactor 1 of Midgard, how many casualites did it make? How many died!? TELL ME! Barett: ...It was for the planet. Some sacrifice was inevitable. Cait: SOME sacrifice!? How much is SOME!? For you, it's very little obviously, but for the ones who died- IT'S EVERYTHNG!! Protect the planet... huh! Sounds great and looks great on paper. Nobody will go against you on that, but where do you have the privilege, the right to kill for ANY cause!? Barett: (furious) You are a Shinra, you think you have the right to even TALK about killing!? Cait: .....fine then... I'm just a Shinra spy!... Claude: STOP IT!! Tifa: Cait... Barett already knows. We can't ask to be forgiven for what we did in Midgard. (to Barett) Isn't that right? We never forgot it! (to Cait) I understand your point too. The reason why you don't quit the Company is because you are worried about Midgard's citizens... right? ...Claude? Claude: (nods) Alright. We'll do something about the Weapon. Cid: Hey Claude... you think you can win against that freak? You think there's a chance? Even a little bit? Claude: I don't know! But we can't leave it alone either, we're going to Midgard NOW. Cid: (if you try to attack the Weapon from the air, Cid protests) What are you DOING!! Are you trying to wreck my plane!? Fight on land! ------------- (Claude waits for the Weapon just outside of Midgard, preparing to fight. However, the Weapon starts to turn back...) Cid: What's wrong with it... it's just ignoring us! Claude: No...it's running away... it feels threatened. Tifa: We'd better get back on the Highwind... (phone rings, it's Cait Sith) Cait: GET OUT OF THERE NOW!! THE CANNON! IT'S ABOUT TO FIRE!! ------------ (in Rufus' office. Heidegger and Scarlett are speaking to Rufus through the monitors on his desk) Heidegger: Hahahaha! Mr President, the Sister Ray is ready. Scarlett: Anytime now, Mr President. Rufus: .... do it. (huge FMV of the Sister Ray collecting Makou from the reactors. All the lights of Midgard go off one by one... Sister Ray fires. The blast is so great that all the windows of the Shinra Building shatter. The Weapon counterattacks and fires high speed energy back at Midgard) ------------ (on Highwind) Tifa: Where's it aiming?! Red: Midgard...!! Barett: MARIIIIIIN!!! (Sister Ray shoots right through the body of the Weapon, killing it instantly.) Barett: Shit... Red: It went right through it.... Claude: It's going north...Sephiroth!?! (The blast of Makou destroys Sephiroth's barrier over the northern crater) ----------- (Rufus' Office) Operator : (on monitor) Report sir... the Weapon is dead and so is the barrier. Rufus: (combs his hair with his hand) Operator: (suddenly panicking) Mr President!! Concentrated energy is heading in this direction!! ---------- Midgard Citizens: It's the Weapon's attack! RUN!! ---------- (Rufus quietly stares outside his office, making no effort to save his own life. The Weapon's missiles fire at the Shinra building, burning him and his office) (end) ---- - Cathy
