The Guide to Dating Other FF7 Characters George B. SpyGeorge1@aol.com During your second visit to the Gold Saucer, after Cloud gets the Keystone, Cloud goes on a date with one of the characters. This character can be either Aeris, Tifa, Yuffie, and yes, even Barret. After you finish explaining what's happened throughout the game to your characters, Cloud will retire to his room and one of the characters will knock at the door. Your decisions throughout the game determine which character you will date. Here, in in this document, is the truth on Final. Fantasy VII dating at the Gold Saucer. No junk or fancy jargon, it's all here in plain English. I'm not going to give you instructions on how to date Aeris because she's really easy to date, you just have to be nice to her. Follow the instructions in this guide to the letter, and you'll date the character you want. Deciding Choice #1 ***According to some Final Fantasy VII dating guides, this here can affect whether or not you date Aeris. However, the choices you make apparently have no effect on whether or not Aeris will date you. If you buy the flower, you can give to Marlene or Tifa, which encourages either Barret or Tifa to date you. If you want to date Yuffie, don't buy the flower. Otherwise, go ahead and buy it.*** After the bombing of the first Mako reactor, Cloud meets a Flower Girl in Sector 8... Flower Girl: Excuse me, what's going on? Cloud: Option 1: You'd better get out of here! (Don't choose this.) Option 2: Nothing, hey... (Engages you in further dialogue) Cloud: Option 1: Don't see many flowers around here. (Engages you in further dialogue) Option 2: Never mind. (Aeris leaves the scene. Don't pick this.) Flower Girl: Oh these? Do you like them? They're only 1 gil. Cloud: Option 1: Buy one (Choose this option if you want to date either Barret, Tifa, or Aeris.) Option 2: Forget it (Aeris [Flower Girl] leaves, lamenting "Not again!". Pick this if you want to date Yuffie.) ***What you say to Barret in front of 7th Heaven apparently has no effect, but if you want to date him, ask "Little Baby?"*** Deciding Choice #2 (-3 stars- only affects Tifa) After you examine the railway map monitor with Jessie on the train, talk to her a second time. She'll talk about making something for you. Saying "Thanks Anyway" has no effect, but saying "Looking forward to it" discourages Tifa from dating you. Deciding Choice #3 (+5 stars, affects Tifa or Barret) If you bought Aeris' flowers, you'll engage in a special dialogue with Tifa: Tifa: Flowers? How nice... You almost never see them here in the slums. But... A flower for me? Oh Cloud, you shouldn't have... Cloud: Option 1: Give it to Tifa. (Encourages Tifa to date you.) Option 2: Give it to Marlene. (Encourages Barret to date you, he'll notice it when comes in. Deciding Choice #4 (+5 stars Tifa): Talk to Tifa after Barret goes down the elevator: Tifa: Sit down.Would you like... ...something to drink? Cloud: Option 1: I don't feel like it. (No effect on dating.) Option 2: Give me something hard. (Encourages Tifa to date you.) Deciding Choice #5 (+5 stars Tifa) Tifa: How can you do that? Just walk out on your childhood friend! Cloud: Option 1: How can you say that! (Encourages Tifa to date you.) Option 2: ...Sorry. (No effect on dating.) Deciding Choice #6 (+5 stars Tifa or Barret) Unless you want to date Tifa or Barret, don't talk to Tifa after coming upstairs from your nap. Tifa (if you chose to talk to her): Did you sleep well? Cloud: Option 1: Next to you, who wouldn't? (Encourages Tifa to date you.) Option 2: Barret's snoring kept me up. (Encourages Barret to date you. Don't ask me why. ***Giving Barret a materia tutorial has no effect on whether or not you date him. I recommend skipping that mindless nonsense.*** Deciding Choice #7 (+5 Tifa and Barret) Apparently if you get to the end of the train before being caught by the security lockdown, it's +5 for Tifa and Barret. If you don't want to date either of them, then let yourself get caught by the security lockdown. Otherwise, do your best to make it to the end of the train successfully. Deciding Choice #8 (+2 stars Barret, or -3 stars Barret and +1 Tifa) After you defeat the Airbuster boss, it will explode, leaving Cloud barely hanging onto the blown-away walkway. Barret: Hey, you gonna be all right? Option 1: (Be strong) Encourages Barret to date you. Option 2: (I don't know if I can hold on) Discourages Barret from dating you and slightly encourages Tifa to date you. ***Apparently, the decisions you make in Aeris' church have no effect on whether or not you're dating her, but I don't know this for certain, so do what's logical and be nice to her if you want to date her, and completely rude to her if you want to date someone else.*** Deciding Choice #9 (Up to +3 stars Aeris or -9 stars Aeris.) Here's the deal with the soldiers that attack you outside of the church. If you push a wrong barrel, each wrong barrel is -3 stars Aeris. If you push the correct barrels, each one is +1 star Aeris. The correct order of barrels to push is: leftmost barrel (in the back), the far right barrel (in the back), and the far right barrel (in the front). Push them appropriately depending on whether or not you want to date her. If you choose not to mess around with the barrels, then anybody she has to fight is -1 star for her. Deciding Choice #10 (+1 star Aeris or -5 stars Aeris) ***This decision does not directly affect whether Tifa will date you, just whether or not Aeris will date you.*** In Aeris' house, Cloud will mention that he wants to go to Tifa's Seventh Heaven. Aeris: Is Tifa a girl?... A girlfriend. Cloud: Girlfriend? Option 1: No way! (Encourages Aeris to date you.) Option 2: Yeah, that's right. (Discourages Aeris from dating you.) Deciding Choice #11 (+1 star Aeris) Cloud and Aeris talk in front of the park, and Cloud suggests taking her back home. Aeris: 'Oh no, what will I ever do?' Isn't that what you want me to say? Option 1: Take her home. (No effect on dating.) Option 2: Go on to Sector 7. (Encourages Aeris to date you.) Deciding Choice(s) #12 (The Wall Market Decisions) This is actually a series of decisions, but I've combined it into one. If you want to date Tifa: Try and get Aeris to be chosen by Don Corneo. You can go to the Honey Bee Inn if you want. He'll choose her if you're wearing the Silk Dress, the Blonde Wig, the Lingerie and the Sexy Cologne. I'm not sure if you need the Lingerie or not. Now this is a bit confusing, but when you rescue her, choose "We've gotta help Aeris!". This will get you 3 stars for Tifa. If you ask her if she's all right, you'll lose two stars for her. I don't know why. (I'm not sure about this whole thing.) If you want to date Yuffie: Get Tifa to be picked by the Don. He'll pick her if you haven't gotten any of the extra items. Then when you go rescue Tifa, If you want to date Barret: Get Cloud to be chosen by the Don. Don't play along with him, and when he asks "Is there someone else?", choose "Yeah, there's this guy named Barret..." This will get you five stars for Barret. Deciding Choice #13 (+3 stars Aeris or Tifa) If you talk to Aeris first after falling down into the sewers, that's 3 stars for Aeris. +3 for Tifa if you talk to her first. (Talk to Tifa first if you want to date anyone other than Aeris.) Deciding Choice #14 (+3/-3 stars Tifa or Aeris) Go upstairs and talk to Barret and Marlene: Marlene: Guess what! Guess what! Aeris asked me all kinds of questions, like what kind person Cloud is. I bet she likes you Cloud! Option 1: I don't know. (Discourages Aeris from dating you and encourages Tifa to date you. Choose this if you want to date anyone but Tifa.) Option 2: Let's hope so. (Encourages Aeris to date you, and discourages Tifa from dating you. ***Apparently, it doesn't matter whether you choose "Let's bust on in" or "Let's sneak in quietly" in front of the Shinra Building. Still, choose "Let's bust on in" unless you want to date Tifa.*** Deciding Choice #15 (-2 stars Tifa or +2 stars Barret) After you rescue Aeris, someone has to take her somewhere safe: Cloud: Somebody take Aeris somewhere safe... Option 1: Tifa, I'm countin' on you. (Discourages Tifa from dating you. Also pick this if you want to date Yuffie.) Option 2: Barret, take care of her! (For some reason, this apparently encourages Barret to date you. Don't ask me why, I don't know.) Deciding Choice #16 (+2 stars Barret, Tifa, or Aeris) After the battle, you break up into two groups. Make your characters the character you want to date and Red XIII. If you want to date Yuffie, then make it Barret and Red XIII. Deciding Choice #17 (+1 Star or -1 Star Tifa as much as you want!) After being tricked by the Shinra, you find yourself locked in a cell with Tifa. This is a great opportunity to directly affect the dating process. Each time you choose one of these options it's - or + 1 Tifa. You can do it as many times as you like. (If you're attempting to date Barret, I recommend choosing kinda hard as many times as possible. If you're trying to date Tifa, then choosing "Leave it to me" as many times as possible will probably make it certain, but it's really not necessary.) Tifa: Psst (Can we get out?) Option 1: (Leave it to me.) (Encourages her to date you.) Option 2: (Kinda hard.) (Discourages her from dating you.) Deciding Choice #18 (+3 or +1 star(s) for Barret or Aeris) When you to the door of your cell, you're given three options. I wonder how (Barret, Red XIII, or Aeris) is doing. For whoever you choose first, +3 Barret or Aeris. For whoever you choose second, +1 Barret or Aeris. Finally, whoever you talk to last, no effect. If you want to date Yuffie, make the order Red XIII, Barret, and then Aeris. Deciding Choice #19 Before you start the Midgar highway sequence, make your party the character you want to date and Red XIII. If you want to date Yuffie, make it Barret and Red XIII. (I believe that this actually has no effect on who you'll date, but I'm not certain.) Deciding Choice #20 (+1 Aeris, Barret, or Tifa) Apparently, the decisions you make when you talk with your characters standing in front of the gates of Midgar, the decisions you make have no effect. However, pick the positive option for the character you want to date, and the negative option for those you don't want to date. If you don't want to date any of them (Yuffie instead), then choose the negative option for all three. Then choose your party. Make it the character you want to date and Red XIII. If you want to date Yuffie, it's Red XIII and Barret again. You'll get +1 star for any character you want to date that you include in your party. You'll get an interesting dialogue if you include neither Tifa nor Aeris in your party: Aeris: ...Interesting... Tifa: ...Combination. Tifa: Well, have fun...boys. Tifa: We'll see you at Kalm! ***It seems that messing around in Tifa's house and looking in her underwear drawer, reading her letter and stuff has no effect on whether or not you will date her. If you get a kick out of it, do it anyway. I'm not including the details in here, but I'll give them to you if you e-mail me. (Besides, I gave you a sure-fire way to date Tifa or seriously discourage her from dating you above.) Deciding Choice #21 (Up to +3 stars Barret or -1 star Barret) Barret: Damn! None of this makes sense! I'm going, going, going, gone! And I'm leavin' the thinkin' to you! Yo, Cloud! Let's get a move on! Option 1: Wait a sec. (Choose this if you want to date Barret for further dialogue.) Option 2: Right. (Encourages Barret to date you, but only one star.) If you choose Wait a sec, Barret babbles about wanting to go off fighting and then asks "Right Cloud?" Option 1: Beautiful, just beautiful. (+3 stars Barret) Option 2: Is that all? (-1 star Barret) Deciding Choice #22 (+2/-2 for Barret, +1/-1 for everyone else.) In one of the houses in Kalm is a woman that says: Thanks to Mako energy, life's pretty damn convenient. Thanks to Shinra. Don't you think? Option 1: Yeah, maybe. (-2 stars for Barret if he's in your party, and -1 one star for any "datable" [I just coined a word.] characters that might be in your party.) Option 2: You're full of it. (+2 stars for Barret if he's in your party, and +1 for other datable characters in your party.) Deciding Choice #23 (+2/-2 stars for Barret, +1/-1 for everyone else) There's a girl in the same house upstairs that says: Mako energy's made things a lot more convenient... But a lot of plants and animals have been disappearing at a rapid pace. I think the old life was better. Don't you think so? Option 1: Yeah, maybe. (positive stars, same deal as above) Option 2: No way! (negative stars, same deal as above) Deciding Choice #24 (Yuffie) After you're out of the Mythril Mine, you can get Yuffie. If you want to date her, then go to the forests by Junon and make her a member of your party, and then make your members Yuffie and Red XIII. If you don't want to date her, then don't make her a member of your party. Be sure to pick all of the right decisions, for a wrong decision will keep her from being in your party, and she'll run away. If you don't know the right decisions, get a walkthrough or e-mail me. There's apparently a trick you can do with this. If you want to be absolutely sure to date Yuffie, you can pick all of the correct decisions necessary to date her (each correct answer is worth 2 stars), except pick the wrong answer and the last one. She'll run away. Run around in the forest and find her again. Go through the same hokum. You can do this as many times as you want, and then when you finally want her in your party, choose the correct answer for the last one. This really shouldn't be necessary though unless you messed up on decisions earlier, or are afraid, you might mess up something later. Deciding Choice #25 (+5/-5 stars Barret, +3/-3 Aeris, +3/-3 Tifa +2/-2 Yuffie) At Fort Condor, the decisions you make when talking to the old man affect whether or not the characters in your party will date you. The correct answers will encourage those characters to date you, while wrong answers will discourage them. If you want to date Tifa, Yuffie, or Aeris, then have the characters you don't want to date in your party, and answer for negative stars to both questions. Then go in with the character you want to date and Red XIII and choose the positive answer, "Let's do it!" However, if you want to date Barret, you need as many bonuses for him as possible, so have him and Red XIII in your party the first time you go in and choose all positive answers. Cloud: ... Option 1: I guess so. (Pick this if you want to date Barret. This will be +5 stars Barret.) Option 2: Not interested. (Pick this if you want to date anyone, with of course the characters you do not wish to date in your party. It'll be +/- as indicated above. They'll force you to listen to him anyway... What do you think? Tifa: Cloud... Aeris: Cloud, why are you still worrying about it? Cloud: ... Option 1: All right. (Again, +5 stars for Barret if you want to date him.) Option 2: Not interested. (Again discourages the characters in your party to date you with the same star values as the last question.) Okay. Now if you dissed the characters you didn't want to date, go back outside, do the PHS, and come back in. Have you by chance changed your mind? Cloud: ... Option 1: Well, let's do it. (The same star values as above, I think.) Option 2: My position hasn't changed. (Negative star values as above.) I think going downstairs to rest after the battle might help things out, but I'm not certain. Deciding Choice #26 (+4 or -2 stars Yuffie) If you want to date Yuffie, then I'm assuming you got her before Junon. If so, then talk to her on the cargo ship... Yuffie: Hey, Cloud? Do you have any tranquilizers? Option 1: Here, use this. (Encourages Yuffie to date you.) Option 2: Nope. (Discourages Yuffie from dating you.) Deciding Choice #27 (+2/-2 stars Aeris) Now, go talk to Aeris. She talks about the Airship, and then... Aeris: Hey do you think I could get on it? Option 1: I'll take you someday. (Encourages Aeris to date you.) Option 2: I dunno... (Discourages Aeris from dating you.) Deciding Choice #28 (+2/-2 stars Tifa) Now talk with Tifa: Yes sir! Everything quiet sir! But you know what? I really hate this uniform. Uniforms, soldiers war, I hate 'em all. They take away all the things and people you love. I wish they'd all disappear. Right Cloud? Option 1: Yeah... (Encourages Tifa to date you.) Option 2: I don't know. (Discourages Tifa from dating you.) For some reason, nothing else you do in the Cargo Ship or in Costa Del Sol apparently makes any difference. Just keep the character you want to date and Red XIII in your party, and just choose the options that would seem to encourage/discourage particular chracters from dating you but apparently don't. You can leave Costa Del Sol immediately if you'd like. Nothing you do in Corel (including the choice of whether or not to take the treasure at the bird's nest) or the Gold Saucer apparently makes any difference either. Choose the character that you want to date to go with around the Gold Saucer. Of course, if you want to date Barret, make it Red XIII. Deciding Choice #29 (+ ??? number of stars) When you go off to fight Dyne, make your characters Barret and the character you want to date, unless you want to date Barret, in which case, make it Barret and Cait Sith. (If you make it Barret and Yuffie, that's apparently +2 stars Yuffie, but I'm not sure about everyone else.) It apparently doesn't matter what you say to Reno and Rude at Gongaga, or whether or not you listen to the conversation between Tseng and Scarlet. Deciding Choice #30 (+1, +2, or -3 stars Aeris, -3 Tifa, or +1 Tifa) After you're done battling Reno and Rude, run outside and PHS for Aeris and Tifa. In the town of Gongaga, there's a house with the parents of a guy named Zack. Aeris and Tifa will be standing outside. Ignoring either of them is -3 stars for whoever you ignore. If you talk to Aeris "Poor Guy" is +1 star and "...jealous...envious" is +2 stars. Talking to Tifa is 1 star. This is apparently all you have to do to date the character you want, except that you can apparently get a total of 10 stars for Yuffie if you do her subquest at Wutai. Be sure to pull the lever she asks you to! Also, I've read that if you go into the pagoda without her in your party, you can't date her, but that might just be garbage. Don't bother with those big long guides that have 60, 70, or who knows how many steps, since this is all you need. What you do in battles will not affect things any, and I don't think it really matters if you keep the character you want to date in your party, although you should. If you're confused about anything e-mail me. Also remember, you can e-mail me if you want savegames for dating a particular character and you have the PC version. Appendix The Date Itself *If you want to find out what happens during the date for yourself, then don't read this because it is a spoiler!* Once you retire to your room in the Ghost Hotel, you'll get a scene where Cloud is staring out the window of his room. You'll then hear "a rapping at your chamber" door, and then the character you'll be dating for the night will say something to the point of "Cloud?". If it's Aeris, she'll explain that you're going on a date, and will playfully shove you out of the room. If it's Tifa, Yuffie, or Barret, they'll say something along the lines of that they were bored and that they want some company or something. You'll then go to the station where a staff member will explain that there's an entertaining show in Event Square. You'll go to Event Square where a staff member will announce "Congraulations! You're our 100th couple! You two will play the leads in tonight's show." If Barret is your date, he'll say something instead along the lines of: "Congratulations! You're our 100th couple. Oh wait, um, never mind." If Barret is your date, you won't do the play, so skip ahead to the next section. During the play, there's a lot of funny options to choose. You can choose to talk to the wizard or the knight, ask for the princess's measurements or for the Evil Dragon King's weakness, say that your true enemy is either the dragon king, the king, or that knight, and either kiss the princess, the dragon, or the king. Thus, the play can range from either very comical and outrageous, to very romantic. After the play, you and your date will head for the gondola at Round Square. This will give you a lovely night view of the Gold Saucer. Whenver your date makes a comment along the lines of "Look Cloud!" or "Wow!" that's your cue to hit the left arrow key (I'm not sure what it is on Playstation) to look at the window and get a spectacular view of the Gold Saucer. Near the end of the ride, you and your date will have a special conversation based entirely on who you choose as your date. I won't reveal the details of this to you, but Yuffie's is hilarious, and so is Barret's! After you get off the gondola, if your date is Aeris, she'll ask if you like her. Answer as you like. You'll then return to the station, where Cait Sith is up to no good with the Keystone. Chase him around the Gold Saucer. If you don't feel like it, you can head directly to Chocobo Square and catch him there. He'll then give the Keystone to Tseng, and reveal that he's a spy for the Shinra. He'll also play a tape with Marlene's voice (which will particularly infuriate Barret if he's your date.) That'll be the end of your date, as you retire for the night to the Ghost Hotel.
