Ringtones Guide -- By ChibiTaryn ================================ Version 1.0 Started December 27, 2003. E-mail: taryn@chibitaryn.net Welcome to the Ringtones Guide v. 1.0 ===================================== This is a BRIEF guide to the Ringtones that I have submitted to the FFVII Citadel, and attempts to outline how to get the ringtones from our website to your phone. As it is impossible for me to know all handsets, this guide can only be VERY basic. If you need information about a specific handset, I suggest you find a copy of your phone's manual. About the Ringtones on the FFVII Citadel ======================================== The ringtones I have provided on the FFVII Citadel were initially designed and tested on Nokia and NEC handsets. While all care has been taken to try to convert ringtones to other formats, I do not have detailed information about phones outside of Nokia and NEC handsets. Please consult your phone manual. Converting Ringtones to other Formats ===================================== There is software available to convert the ringtones on our site to other formats for entry into your handset. The Coding Workshop Ringtone Converter is available for trial download at: http://www.codingworkshop.com/ringtones/index.html It supports most makes and models of phones and is available for both Windows PC and Mac. Using the Composer ================== Please see the information at (http://ff7citadel.com/ringtoneinstruct.htm) for how to use the composer to enter Ringtones. If instructions are not listed there, consult your phone's user manual first. If your phone type is not on our site, you may need to convert the ringtone, so see the section "Converting Ringtones to other Formats" in this document for instructions. Phones without Composers ======================== If your phone does not have a composer feature, there are a number of ways you can send a tone to your phone. 1) Have a friend use their phone to compose, then SMS to you 2) Use computer software and cable/bluetooth/infrared 3) (Nokia only) Convert tone to Nokia Binary and SMS yourself. The easiest way is to have a friend with composer enter the ringtone into their phone, and then send it to you via SMS. Most phones have a "Send Ringtune" feature that allows you to do this easily. Another way to send ringtones to phones without composers is to use a cable and software to send it from your computer. Many phones come with software that allows you to send ringtones, logos and picture messages from your computer to your phone. This varies from model to model, so consult your manual. You may need a data cable to send the data, so ask your local phone store, they should know which one is best for your phone. The last way works only for Nokia phones, and requires the use of Coding Workshop's Ringtone Converter to convert the ringtone. You will need to convert the tone to "Nokia Binary" or "SMS format". Be warned that this is a limiting format and will force your ringtone to only 30 notes! Once you have converted it, you need to enter the code into your SMS messenger and send it to yourself as an SMS. Your phone will say "Ringtone recieved" when you are done and you can save and use the tone. **HINT:** If you need to send yourself Nokia Binary, an easy way to send the code is to use ICQ's SMS feature. When you recieve the message from ICQ, just delete ICQ's header and then send it to yourself again to recieve the ringtone. POLYPHONIC RINGTONES ==================== Polyphonic Ringtones are small music files in a format called MIDI. You can find MIDI files all over the internet, however they have to be a special format of MIDI to work on your handset. Some handsets can also use .WAV files as ringtones. As a general rule, MIDI files for ringtones MUST be under 20k in size to be able to send to your phone. They must also be in SMF 0 format. The ringtones on the FFVII Citadel are all under 20k in size and in SMF 0 format, so all you need to do is send them to your phone. To send them to your phone, you most likely need to connect your phone to your computer and use a cable to transfer the ringtone. If you are able to use your phone to surf the internet, then enter the URL of the ringtone into your phone, and your phone should be able to download and save the ringtone to itself. Consult your phone's manual for information on sending Polyphonic Ringtones. If you are using a 3G phone, there are many 3G websites such as www.aussie3g.com that will be able to provide info on sending Polyphonic Ringtones to your phone. IN CLOSING ========== If I haven't been able to answer your question, I probably don't know the answer. The best thing you can do is.. as I've said many times in this guide -- check your phone's manual. And search the internet. There are many guides out there on how to send stuff to phones, hopefully you will be able to find one that suits your handset. Also, try the Coding Workshop's Ringtone Converter. Not only does it convert ringtones, but it provides information on how to get tones to your handset. I hope that this small guide has been helpful, and please enjoy the Ringtones.
